Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the top-streamed track within 6 months. It was a combination of reggaeton and pop that did not just bring new interest to reggaeton but also an increase in interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs in 2016 compared to two songs from 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the Top 100 for 2020. there were 41 of them. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix to Despacito (2017) famous artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna with Maluma for Medellin (2019). Some reggaeton artists have criticized the shift to mainstream music in 2020. But a new group, Rauw alejandro, was trying to change the course. The genre often incorporated elements from electronic dance music, and other genres.
